Diaper drive!

APA Community,

We are excited to be participating in a Diaper Drive in partnership with Babies Need Bottoms to help families in our own community! A Diaper Drive—where we will collect diapers and wipes, helps to meet a crucial needs for families of little ones in Asheville. As we all know, diapers are an ongoing, necessary part of daily life with babies and young children. And they are expensive! Monthly costs for diapers can exceed $80 per child and government assistance benefits do not cover the cost of diapers. Infants use up to 12 diapers a day and toddlers up to 8 diapers a day. In and around Asheville, there are over 24,000 children under the age of 5 and about 25% of children live in poverty. We know many families struggle to have enough diapers. For these families, meeting the basic needs of diapering can cause anxiety, distress and difficult financial decisions.

Something practical and specific to help families of young children is to collect and donate diapers and diaper supplies to be distributed through Babies Need Bottoms, a local, volunteer run diaper bank (https://babiesneedbottoms.org). Babies Need Bottoms connect diapers and diaper supplies with families through local partnerships.

We will be collecting:

  • New packages of diapers (all sizes Newborn to size 6 and pull-ups)
  • Opened packages of diapers
  • Diaper wipes
  • Cloth diapers

Diapers and wipes can be dropped off in the marked box near the check-out desk starting today through February 14, 2019.

Thank you so much for your generous efforts to support the Asheville community. No donation is too small–it will be meaningful and appreciated!

With gratitude,
